This weekend my husband and I attended the soft opening for Selland’s Market Cafe.
Selland Family Restaurants is a family owned business. They’ve specialized in farm-to-table meals for more than 20 years. My husband and I have eaten a few times at The Kitchen, a gourmet demonstration meal that is an experience unlike any other. I have posted about it here. If you come to Sacramento, and want to have a night of indulgence, education, entertainment, as well as some of the best prepared meals around, book as soon as you can. Trust me, counter seating is the best.
The Selland Group also owns Ella Dining Room and Bar in Midtown Sacramento. Ella’s is a comfortable, classy restaurant that appeals to the senses. They serve New American fused with French-style cooking. I’m crazy for poached eggs. My favorite dish there is the Pappardelle and Poached Egg.
The original Selland’s Market is also in Midtown Sacramento, but I haven’t had a chance to run down there to try it. So it is with great fanfare, anticipation, and excitement that the community here in the Folsom/El Dorado Hills/Cameron Park area welcomes the second location for Selland’s Market. Selland’s in El Dorado Hills is about 1,000 sq. ft. larger than the one in Midtown, but like that location, it sells comfort food for dine-in, take-out and catering. They have a wood-burning oven for their signature pizzas, a wine cellar, and pastries. You’ll also find gourmet goodies perfectly staged throughout the store for purchase.
First off, I love the color scheme. I want to do a bedroom with the green, black and white. I’m a fan of open kitchens. The patio is filled with seating to enjoy a meal al fresco, and the ancient olive trees overlooking a man-made lake, is perfect for this area.
I love the framed chalkboards, the mason jar lights, and the seating inside looks like you’re dropping by a friend’s kitchen. If there’s one thing you can trust with the Selland Group, it’s the aesthetic attention to detail. I appreciate that.
This was my first soft-open event. It was packed. The staff were attentive, friendly and cheerful. Randall Selland and his wife Nancy Zimmer were in attendance, busily assisting staff, greeting guests, and basking in the welcome from this community.
My favorite sampling that night was the Apple Croustade. I have a weakness for desserts from scratch involving apples.
Selland’s is open M-Tues from 10:30am to 8:00pm, Wed-Sat 10:30am to 9:00pm, and Sun 9:30am to 8:00pm. They also have a Sunday brunch that is filled with poached eggs, and other fabulous offerings. I’m a sucker for a good brunch, can’t wait to try it. See you there.
